In addition to having a bouquet of colorful fish swimming within them, each tank in the Aquarium is also inspired by the decor and colors of the various types of rooms found throughout the estate, including one or two red herrings.
― Room Directory

The Aquarium is a room in Blue Prince. It is listed as Room 044 in the Room Directory.

Points of interest

Items

The Aquarium always spawns with a dig spot in front of the crate. It also has a high chance to contain an item from the following list, resting either on or against the barrel:

* Keys can spawn in two different positions. With sufficient luck, it is possible to get both.

[Datamined Information] This room uses luck as usual to determine item spawns. If "0 items" is rolled, there is a 50% chance to get 1 item. The two possible key spawns are separate items.

Tanks

The Aquarium contains five fish tanks, each of which contains miniature furniture and props referencing another actual room or color of room. The room colors correspond to the colors of the coral in the tanks, as well as the colors of fish visible in the Aquarium's floorplan icon.

  • The red tank containing metallic shelves and filing cabinets represents the Archives.
  • The green tank containing lawn chairs and a grill represents the Patio.
  • The orange tank contains furniture that is generally found in Hallways. However, it is not clear if it represents any specific Hallway or the general type of room.
  • The violet tank containing bed and bedside furniture represents the Bedroom.
  • The gold tank containing the washing machines represents the Laundry Room.

Effect and color interactions

The Aquarium is a multicolored floorplan that incorporates every color. Due to its position in the Room Directory, it could be considered a blueprint with an effect that makes it additionally a Bedroom, Hallway, Green Room, Red Room, Shop, and Blackprint. These types are shown in a non-standard order on the Aquarium's directory page.

While the additional types have no meaningful effect by themselves, they cause the Aquarium to inherit interactions from every color type in the game. For instance, it benefits from the highly synergistic effects of Green Rooms like the Patio, Terrace and Veranda, as well as providing steps when used in conjunction with the Nursery or Sleeping Mask. A Foyer can prevent it from ever being locked, while its Red Room classification can be useful for experiments. A full list of all such interactions is provided below.

As a Red Room

As a Green Room

  • Drafting the Greenhouse makes the Aquarium more common today.
  • The Aquarium costs no gems to draft if the Terrace is on the estate.
  • The Aquarium is more likely to contain random items when drafted while the Veranda is on the estate.
  • Drafting the Patio may spread a green gem to the Aquarium.
  • The Watering Can can be used once in the Aquarium to exchange one 1 for 1.
  • Drafting the Aquarium after activating Florealis, Bloom of the Sky today will cause it to contain a gem flower.
  • The Aquarium is drawn significantly more often during a Green Rooms-restricted draft, initiated by using the green book in the Secret Passage or by using the Prism Key on a locked Green Room door.
    • The Aquarium can appear consistently as a default option even after it has been drafted once the draft pool is depleted, typically appearing in Slot 2 once the pool is completely devoid of valid Green Rooms. This can cause it to break its usual drafting requirements and be drawn with a doorway leading outside of the house.
  • West Path [Outer Room: Shrine] Drafting the Aquarium while cursed will cause the player to lose 1.
  • Upgrade Disk [Upgrade Spoiler: Nursery] Drafting the Aquarium will cause 2 to appear in the Indoor Nursery.
  • Upgrade Disk [Upgrade Spoiler: Cloister] Drafting the Aquarium from the Cloister of Rynna will increase luck today.

As a Hallway

As a Bedroom

As a Shop

As a Blackprint

General color interactions

  • The Aquarium is very common in the special color drafts of the Prism Key or Secret Passage, as it is never filtered out. It is a default option for a Hallway-selective drafts with a depleted draft pool, where it can appear in the third slot, and for Green Room-selective drafts, where it can appear in the second slot or third slot.
  • West Path [Outer Room: Shrine] Due to the Aquarium having every color type, it incurs every possible punishment from being cursed. As such, drafting it while cursed results in a total loss of 2, 2, 2 and 2.

Aquarium is Rare Gem in Center and North/South, and Common Gem only on the Wings. The experiment Aquariums are the exact opposite, being Common Gem in Center and North/South (but excluding the pierce doors), and Rare Gem on the wings. (Common Gem means that it is only able to be considered in Slot 3 of the colored draft, barring prismatic lists.)

Aquarium is in the Center, North/South Pierce, West Edge, East Edge, and West/East Pierce Prismatic Lists.

Other interactions

  • The Aquarium increases the steps gained from eating Lemon Glazed Salmon in the Dining Room by 10.
  • There is an experimental effect which adds three copies of the Aquarium to the draft pool each time it triggers. These additional copies are identical to the originals except that they cannot be drafted in certain positions from certain directions, possibly due to a bug or oversight. Specifically, they cannot be drafted southwards in the two Rank 1 locations adjacent to the Entrance Hall, and cannot be drafted northwards into the Rank 9 locations adjacent to the Antechamber.
  • West Path [Outer Room: Root Cellar] Drafting the Aquarium with the Root Cellar on the estate always causes it to contain a second dig spot.
  • [Chamber of Mirrors Spoiler] The Chamber of Mirrors may contain a physical copy of the Aquarium's floorplan in one of its cabinets which can be permanently added to the draft pool.
  • Upgrade Disk [Upgrade Spoiler: Cloister] As a room containing animals, the Aquarium will permanently grant the player 2 if it is drafted from the Cloister of Dauja.

Animation showing the Aquarium's Bedroom-themed tank at each water level

The Aquarium is one of the locations with an associated water level in the Pump Room. The Aquarium's water level may be set anywhere between 0 and 6, with 6 being its initial level, and controls the amount of water in the each of the fish tanks.

The fish tanks all deplete gradually and maintain the same water level as each other. As the water is emptied, the tanks become clearer and it is easier to see the props and other details inside the tanks.

  • At water levels 5 and 6, all tanks are full, with no difference between the two levels.
  • At water levels 3 and 4, the tanks are about 80% full, with no difference again.
  • At water level 2, the tanks are around 50% full.
  • At water level 1, the tanks are around 20% full.
  • At water level 0, the tanks are empty aside from a thin layer of water around the edges of some of the tanks.

The numbers of fish in each of the tanks deplete gradually at each water level. In the Archives-themed tank, which has one large, single fish, it vanishes when the water level is less than 3. Fish reappear when the water levels are raised again. Although the Pump Room appears to transfer water gradually, drafting the Pump Room near the Aquarium reveals that the tanks' water levels actually change near-instantly.

Upgrade Disk [Upgrade Spoiler: Cloister] Even if the Aquarium is completely devoid of fish, it still provides stars when drafted from the Cloister of Dauja.

While the water level is 1 or lower, markings can be seen in three of the Aquarium tanks:

  • In the Patio tank, there is an X mark in front of the grill.
  • In the Laundry Room tank, there is an X mark in front of the middle washing machine of the row on the right.
  • In the Archives tank, there is an arrow pointing towards the central filing cabinet.

This section contains spoilers for the markings' significance.

The actual Patio and Laundry Room each have a hidden dig spot in locations corresponding to the X marks in the tanks. Digging up either spot with a Shovel or equivalent provides the player with a File Cabinet Key for each. These two keys can each be used to open two drawers in a filing cabinet in center of the Archives, as is indicated by the arrow in the corresponding tank. These drawers contain important documents and the drawer unlocked by the Patio key also contains an Upgrade Disk.

This section contains datamined information about experiment-added Aquariums. It may contain spoilers for various stages of the game.

When the experiment to add 3 Aquariums to the draft pool is activated, the Aquarium's Dynamic Rarity is set to Commonplace, it gets a 3% Priority Draw, and it gets a 13# Priority Draw.

The experiment Aquariums are placed in different draft pools than the original Aquarium, even for the same drafting locations. Since drafting removes 1 from every pool, the strange behavior occurs. In terms of weight (number of copies in the deck when drawing), the maximum in the two draft pools is actually the value used, but for special draws (Silver Key, Prism Key) they can use the draft pools more specifically.

Upgrades

Edit this section at Aquarium/Upgrades.

The Aquarium is one of the floorplans which may be randomly selected when using an Upgrade Disk at a computer terminal.

There are three possible upgrades:

Each Aquarium upgrade is themed around a kind of fish related to the additional functionality the upgrade brings. The new fish appear in Archives-themed tank, replacing the solitary fish that occupies it in the base verison.

The goldfish tank, with a scattering of gold coins at the bottom
In addition to having a bouquet of colorful fish, each tank in the Aquarium is inspired by the decor and colors of the various types of rooms found throughout the estate. However, the prevalence of goldfish seems to hint at a slight preference for shops among the manor's many floorplans.
― Updated Room Directory

The Goldfish Aquarium always contains ten coins, found as two piles of 5 on the barrel. It may still contain other items.

Upgrade Disk [Upgrade Spoiler: Guest Bedroom] If the Guess Bedroom mimics the Goldfish Aquarium, two piles of 5 appear on the small round items table by the armchair in addition to the Aquarium's other effects.

The starfish tank
In addition to having a bouquet of colorful fish, each tank in the Aquarium is inspired by the decor and colors of the various types of rooms found throughout the estate. The new addition of starfish compliment this theme, giving the many aquatic creatures in this room a comparable equivalent of the night sky.
― Updated Room Directory

The Starfish Aquarium immedately gives the player 1 whenever it is drafted. Entering the Starfish Aquarium is not necessary to gain the star.

The star count is visible in the top left of the screen while standing in the Starfish Aquarium, similar to the Observatory.

Upgrade Disk [Upgrade Spoiler: Guest Bedroom] If the Guess Bedroom mimics the Starfish Aquarium, it also provides a star when it is drafted and shows the star count while standing in the Guess Bedroom, in addition to its other effects.

The electric eel tank, with some sort of power line in the back
In addition to having a bouquet of colorful fish, each tank in the Aquarium is inspired by the decor and colors of the various types of rooms found throughout the estate. The new addition of electric eels is an electrifying upgrade, making this room feel much more powerful—literally.
― Updated Room Directory

The Electric Eel Aquarium is a power source similar to the Boiler Room and supplies steam power through all of its doors. Unlike the Boiler Room, the power is supplied immediately with no components to move or turbine to activate.

The Electric Eel Aquarium's effect has other differences from the Boiler Room as well:

  • The power is sent through all three doors at once instead of just one at a time, and cannot be turned off.
  • The drafting effect of steam ducts is significantly weakened with this room: drafting from this room does not apply the effect at all, and drafting from other duct rooms usually does not make this room any more common than usual.

The Electric Eel Aquarium also becomes a Mechanical room in addition to all of its many other types, gaining the following interactions:

  • Holding the Gear Wrench allows the rarity of the Electric Eel Aquarium to be permanently adjusted when drafting it.
  • West Path [Outer Room: Shrine] While the Blessing of the Tinkerer from the Shrine is active, drafting the Electric Eel Aquarium will trigger the current experiment, if there is one.
  • Workshop [Contraption Spoiler: Powered Electromagnet] Having the Powered Electromagnet makes drawing the Electric Eel Aquarium more likely.
  • Found Floorplans [Found Floorplan: Mechanarium] Drafting the Electric Eel Aquarium will cause an additional door to spawn in the Mechanarium when the latter is drafted.

Spoilers Within

This section contains spoilers for guessing Bedrooms.

If the Guess Bedroom mimics the Electric Eel Aquarium, it can become a source of steam power, despite being a Dead End with no ducts. There is no visual indicator of this power within the room itself, but if it was drafted from a room with ducts, that room becomes powered. If the Guess Bedroom mimics the Electric Eel Aquarium but isn't drafted from a room with ducts, there is no power effect.

Unlike with the other Aquarium upgrades, a Guess Bedroom mimicking the Electric Eel Aquarium does not appear to gain any other new colors or types in the Room Directory page. However, it still seems to be considered those types by certain effects; for instance, drafting it with Florealis, Bloom of the Sky active will still add a gem flower to the room.

[Datamined Information] When the Guess Bedroom mimics an Electric Eel Aquarium, it also gets treated as Mechanical. For some reason, if this happens, any additional copies of Guest Bedroom are affected by the Chronograph's increased chance for Tomorrow Rooms.

Additional information

  • The Aquarium's floorplan icon appears on page 14 of Drafting Strategy: Architectural Digest Vol. 1 as an example of a multicolored floorplan. The page explains how multicolored floorplans benefit from interactions of all of their colors, citing the Nursery and Foyer as examples of effects that benefit the Aquarium.
  • As it has every color, the Aquarium has several unique traits:
    • It is the only Bedroom with more than two doors.
    • It is the only Shop with no shop interface.
    • Upgrade Disk [Upgrade Spoiler: Aquarium] It is both the only upgradeable Red Room and the only upgradeable Shop. Its upgrades are the only floorplans to bear both the Shop and Upgrade types.
