Countless shelves of documents and towering file cabinets make this otherwise immense space seem small and cramped. These archives contain almost a century of records and files pertaining to the Sinclair family's numerous interests, many of which are sealed and unable to be accessed.

The Aquarium contains clues on how to obtain two File Cabinet Keys. Both keys can be used on a file cabinet in the middle of the room to unlock two drawers. The first drawer contain a second set of clippings detailing the events that took place after the end of the Pacification of Fenn, the fate of the royal family and a piece of a Sigil. Consult Newspaper Clippings for more on it. The second drawer contains an Upgrade Disk and the original certificate of birth for Mary Jones, confirming her heritage as part of the Epsen family.

Effect

The Archives, as the name suggests, will "archive" one of the three floorplans drawn whenever a room is drafted after Archives. The archived floorplan can still be chosen, but the player will not be able to see what floorplan it is unless the archived floorplan is chosen.

While the archived floorplan is obscured from view, some clues may still be gleamed about its identity:

  • If the floorplan requires gems, the gem cost will still appear below.
  • The Coat Check will still display the label of the checked item while archived.
  • [Boiler Room spoilers] If the door has steam power through it, rooms that can take power will have the power line attached to it even while archived.
  • Studio Additions [Studio Addition: Dovecote] The Dovecote will still allow room rotation while archived.
  • Quite a few floorplans have specific drafting requirements, particularly the edges and corners of the mansion, which can be used to narrow down the possibilities.
  • Floorplans that are not in the draft pool, such as by having all copies drafted, can usually be excluded.
  • If the door being drafted from is a security door, the rarity of the floorplan is shown.
    • Even if the door drafted from is not a security door, drawn floorplans of the same gem cost usually sort by rarity.
  • Some special items have a clear effect when drawing specific types of rooms. These rooms are Hall Pass and [Secret Item: Crown of the Blueprints].
  • Some special items have an effect during drafting that only apply if a room with certain properties are drawn, so if none of the other two floorplans satisfy the requirement the archived one must. These items are [Secret Shop Item: Knight's Shield] and [Secret Item: Paper Crown].

If the player redraws, the Archives effect will still obscure one of the three new floorplans. The effect of the Archives does not stack; if multiple are drafted, it acts identically to if only one was drafted.

Interactions

  • The Archives has its own experimental trigger which is activated by drafting archived floorplans.
  • Activating The Southern Cross makes the Archives more common today.
  • [Boiler Room spoilers] The Archives is fitted with steam ducts, allowing it to convey steam power from the Boiler Room. Since it has four doors, it can split steam power in three different directions. The Archives also has an increased chance to be drawn when drafting from other rooms with ducts, and has an increased chance to draw those rooms when being drafted from.

As a Red Room

  • Drafting the Archives can trigger a particular experimental trigger which is activated by drafting Red Rooms. It also causes the player to lose 5.
  • There is also a particular experimental effect which provides 3 gold for each Red Room on the estate each time it is triggered, including the Archives.
  • The Archives is drawn significantly more often during a Red Rooms-restricted draft, initiated by using the red book in the Secret Passage or by using the Prism Key on a locked Red Room door.
  • Upgrade Disk [Upgrade Spoiler: Parlor] Drafting the Archives will cause an additional 1 to appear in the Funeral Parlor prize box when it is opened.
  • Upgrade Disk [Upgrade Spoiler: Closet] Drafting the Empty Closet from the Archives will cause it to contain four items instead of none.
  • West Path [Outer Room: Shrine] After drafting the Archives with Blessing of the General active, if there are Red Rooms in at least five different ranks, the player immediately gains 5.
  • West Path [Outer Room: Shrine] Drafting the Archives while cursed will cause the player to lose 1, 1, 1 and 1.
  • West Path [Outer Room: Shelter] Drafting the Archives under the effect of the Shelter will disable its negative effect, meaning Archived floorplans do not appear.
    • [Secret Shop Item: Knight's Shield] Using the Knight's Shield has the same effect.
  • [Secret Item: Crown of the Blueprints] When the Archives is drawn while drafting, the Crown of the Blueprints can remove it from the draft pool, redraw floorplans, and give 1.
  • [Secret Item: Paper Crown] Drawing the Archives while drafting prevents using the Paper Crown's redraw ability.
  • [Game Mode: Dare Mode] The dare in Dare Mode to always draft a red room when drawn applies to the Archives.
