The rustic, wooden stacked bunk beds evoke the enticing promise of campfire stories and childhood adventures. This bedroom served as a pillowfort and bedroom to the young Sinclair boys, and has remained faithfully unchanged over the years.
― Room Directory

The Bunk Room is a room in Blue Prince. It is listed as Room 6 of the Bedrooms page in the Room Directory.

Points of interest

Items

The Bunk Room always contains a pair of identical basic items on the shelf to the left after entering. The possibilities are:

  • Two bananas
  • Two piles of two coins, for 4 in total
  • Two yellow gems
  • Two basic keys
  • Very rarely, two trunks may spawn on the floor beside the shelf instead

Documents

Herbie's Journal can be found sitting next to a microscope, in an out-of-the-way nook on the right of the bunk beds. It reveals the original occupants of the room - the brothers Herbert and Simon Sinclair - and sheds light on their personalities and relationship with each other as children and young adults.

Effect

The Bunk Room counts as two Bedrooms. Like the effect of the Aquarium, this doesn't grant any particular benefit by itself, but it has several interactions with other effects that care about Bedrooms. For instance, drafting and entering the Bunk Room with a Sleeping Mask will grant +10 instead of the usual +5.

The Bunk Room has some other, specific doubling interactions: for instance, there are some circumstances in which the Bunk Room may be counted as two Dead Ends. However it does not count as two rooms in general, or two Dead Ends in general. For instance, entering the Master Bedroom with the Bunk Room in the house will not grant an additional step, and it does not add an additional room to the final room count dispalyed at the end of the day.

See Interactions below for more details.

If the player calls it a day in the Bunk Room and visits the Tomb tomorrow, there will be a gem flower by Simon Sinclair's grave. This additional, secret effect is alluded to in a passage in Her Ladyship's Diary, which tells how Clara Epsen tried sleeping in the Bunk Room, the childhood bedroom of her late husband Simon Sinclair.

If you've found a new clue, you know what to do.

Does calling it a day in the Bunk Room increase the probability of the Tomb being drawn the next day?

Interactions

As a double Bedroom

  • Drafting the Bunk Room with the Nursery in the estate will provide +10 instead of +5.
  • The Bunk Room will cause +2 to spawn in the Servant's Quarters instead of +1.
  • The Bunk Room counts twice for the Bedrooms experimental trigger. This can cause it to trigger the experiment twice, or count as both of the initial two Bedrooms, or count as the second Bedroom and trigger the experiment once if there is exactly one other Bedroom in the estate
  • Entering the Bunk Room with a Sleeping Mask for the first time provides +10 instead of +5.
  • West Path [Outer Room: Shrine] Drafting the Bunk Room while cursed will cause the player to lose 2 instead of 1.
  • Upgrade Disk [Upgrade Spoiler: Cloister] Drafting the Bunk Room from the Cloister of Mila will cause it to contain two items: either two Silver Keys, two Vault Keys, two pairs of dice, or two cupcakes. See Cloister of Mila for more information.

As a Dead End

If you've found a new clue, you know what to do.

Does Draxus, the Dead make the Bunk Room floorplan super common?

Other interactions

  • Drafting the Bunk Room while it is archived can trigger the archived floorplans experimental trigger twice.
  • Drafting the Bunk Room while holding a Metal Detector may cause two separate coins to spawn next to each other in the pillows area, instead of spawning in a single pile as usual.
  • Upgrade Disk [Upgrade Spoiler: Cloister] As the Bunk Room contains a hamster, drafting it from the Cloister of Dauja will permanently grant 2. It will not trigger twice.

Upgrades

Edit this section at Bunk Room/Upgrades.

The Bunk Room is one of the floorplans which may be randomly selected when using an Upgrade Disk at a computer terminal.

There are three possible upgrades:

Floorplan Effect Description

If you have exactly 2 HALLWAYS when drafting this room, DOUBLE your
No change
BunkRoomGemsUpgradeIcon.png This room counts as 2 BEDROOMS.
If you have exactly 2 GREEN ROOMS when drafting this room, DOUBLE your
No change

No change

All three upgrades have a very similar effect: if an upgraded Bunk Room is drafted while exactly two rooms of a particular color are in the house, the associated resource for that color is immediately doubled.

  • The coin doubling effect works by granting an amount of coins equal to the amount already held. With a Coin Purse, this will effectively result in a 133% increase in coins. For instance, triggering the coin doubling effect with 15 will add an additional 15, and then the Coin Purse will add a further 5 for 35 total.
  • Workshop [Contraption Spoiler: Lucky Purse] The Lucky Purse works in a similar manner, and will provide the same amount of coins a second time to effective triple the number of held coins.

None of the Bunk Room's upgrades alter the room cosmetically or modify which items spawn in the room. However, the Upgrade subtype is also doubled, turning the Bunk Room into a Bedroom Bedroom Dead End Dead End Upgrade Upgrade room.

  • [Spoiler for the Satellite Dish] The upgraded Bunk Room does count as two upgraded rooms for the "upgraded rooms" experimental trigger.

Additional information

The Bunk Room may be the only room to contain two identical chess pieces.
  • In keeping with its duality theme, the Bunk Room contains two black pawns.
  • A note in the "Tips & Tricks" section of Drafting Strategy: Architectural Digest Vol. 3 states that the Bunk Room counts as two rooms in general and lists a number of interactions for it. All of it is false except for the Servant's Quarter interaction, which works due to the Bunk Room being counted as two Bedrooms rather than as two rooms in general.
  • A note in the Locker Room lists various potential locations for Room 46, including "Full House of 45 Rooms + Bunk Room?". However, this line is crossed out in red.
