Coins
Coins, gold, or gold coins, are a resource in Blue Prince. The primary use of coins is to purchase items at shops. They are almost universally referred to in-game using the icon.
As a resource item, they are frequently found in piles of up to five coins at a time, which can all be collected in a single action. Coins can be dug up from dig spots, found with a Metal Detector, or may have either random or fixed spawns in certain rooms. They can also be provided directly to the player by a range of effects.
Sources
Coins may spawn in many rooms as items, which can be picked up. They can also appear inside most containers such as trunks and dig spots.
The following rooms have an effect based on providing coins:
- [Upgrade Spoiler: Storeroom] Storeroom: An upgrade gives +10
- Pantry: +4
- Rumpus Room: +8
- Vault: +40
- Office: Spread , and can additionally send to Maid's Chamber and Servant's Quarters
- Freezer: Freeze your (and ), allowing them to be retained to the next day
- [Upgrade Spoiler: Aquarium] Goldfish Aquarium: +10
- [Upgrade Spoiler: Bunk Room] Bunk Room: An upgrade doubles your if you have exactly 2 Shops when drafted
- [Outer Room: Tomb] Tomb: Spreads 5 to itself whenever a Dead End is drafted
- [Studio Addition: Casino] Casino: +15; slots and roulette can also award (see page for details)
- [Found Floorplan: Treasure Trove] Treasure Trove: +5 per time drafted (max 32)
The following items have effects which may give additional coins, possibly in addition to other effects:
- Metal Detector: Rooms often spawn with additional coins
- [Contraption Spoiler: Detector Shovel] Detector Shovel: Metal Detector + more likely to get more coins when digging
- Treasure Map: Treasure may have 25 or 40 in it
- Coin Purse: Whenever you collect coins, gain a third extra
- [Contraption Spoiler: Lucky Purse] Lucky Purse: Double coins gained
The following effects also often give coins:
- North Star: +1 when activated
- Allowance: Collect coins in the Entrance Hall at the start of day
- Pump Room: The Fountain and Pool, when empty, usually contain coins
- Two experimental effects can provide coins:
- One effect provides +3 for each Red Room on the estate
- One effect provides +20, but deducts 10 steps
- [Outer Room: Shrine] The Blessing of the High Roller gives 5 whenever an ivory die is used
- [Outer Room: Shrine] The Blessing of the Chef offers Golden Sunrise Soup, which gives 5-10, when coins are spread
- [Outer Room: Shrine] Taking coins out of the Shrine bowl refunds the spent on the blessing (at the cost of becoming cursed)
- [Puzzle Spoiler: Chess] Piety of the Bishop gives +30 the first time the Chapel is entered with the power in a day
- [Major Constellation: Spiral of Stars] Activating the Spiral of Stars provides gold at various word counts. At 23-25 words added, it grants 1; past that, it grants coins equal to the current day.
There are several coin sources that may only be claimed once:
- Chapel secret: The Keeper of Tithes gives all the ever taken by the Chapel's effect
- Vault Key spoiler: Some of the deposit boxes in the Vault contain when they're opened
- [Outer Room: Trading Post] The still room in the Trading Post spawns with 40 the first time
- [Book Spoiler: Drafting Strategy: Architectural Digest Vol. 5] The Drafting Strategy Sweepstakes gives a 200 reward for completion
Uses
The main use of coins is being spent in Shops, which provide items or other services for coins:
- Commissary
- Kitchen
- Locksmith
- Showroom
- Laundry Room
- [Very Secret Room: The Armory]
- [Studio Addition: Casino]
Some purchases are limited use which serve as a goal to afford rather than being particularly useful for the current day:
- [Trophy: Trophy of Wealth] The Trophy of Wealth is a one-time purchase once the regular Showroom items are bought out
- [Rare Room: Bookshop] All Bookshop purchases are permanent
- [Very Secret Room: The Armory] The Axe is limited to 3 uses a savefile
- [Post-Credits Room: Mount Holly Gift Shop] All Gift Shop purchases are permanent
Non-shop rooms or effects that allow spending coins:
- A coin may be thrown into the Fountain once per day
- [Outer Room: Shrine] Making a donation to the Shrine costs coins
Other interactions
- Chapel: -1 on entry
- Laundry Room: Can swap coins with gems / keys
- [Outer Room: Shrine] While cursed, 1 is lost whenever a Shop or Red Room is drafted
- [Major Constellation: Spiral of Stars] After 82 words are added, activating the Spiral of Stars prevents any additional coins from being gained for the rest of the day. This does not prevent the coin count from being increased by swapping it for a higher total resource using the Laundry Room.
- After making a Shop purchase, if the player has more than 99999, coin count is set to 99999
