The staff commissary is always stocked with household goods and supplies at a reasonable cost. This provides the servants of the estate an invaluable service, especially to the live-in staff who may only expect to leave the property once or twice a month.
― Room Directory

The Commissary is a room in Blue Prince. Listed as the first room of the Shops page in the Room Directory, the Commissary is the quintessential Shop, offering a selection of special items that can be purchased with gold.

Drafting

The Commissary does not have drafting restrictions.

The Commissary's Dynamic Rarity is Commonplace, except on Day 1 when Veteran Mode is disabled, in which case it is Unusual.

Commissary has a permanent 13% Priority Draw.

Items

With high luck, gems can appear next to the dirigiblocks cabinet.

The Commissary store will always sell four items and/or sets of items. All of the items and their prices are drawn from the following pool:

Item Cost Image
Gem 3 Gem image.png
Key 10 Key image.png
Banana 3 Banana image.png
Set of gems 10 Set of gems image.png
Magnifying Glass 4 Magnifying Glass image.png
Salt Shaker 5 Salt Shaker image.png
Compass 6 Compass image.png

Running Shoes 8 Running Shoes image.png
Sleeping Mask 8 Sleeping Mask image.png
Sledge Hammer 8 Sledge Hammer image.png
Metal Detector 10 Metal Detector image.png
Upgrade Disk 15 Upgrade Disk image.png

The offered items come from a fixed list of selections which is chosen at the time the Commissary is drafted. For a selection to be offered, every special item in that selection must be available in the current item pool. For instance, if there is an existing room in the house containing a Shovel, then a newly drafted Commissary will not sell a Compass because the only selection offering a Compass also offers the Shovel.

B Gems Salt Shaker Shovel Keys
C Salt Shaker Compass Shovel Sledge Hammer
D Magnifying Glass Sledge Hammer Sleeping Mask Running Shoes
E Gems Salt Shaker Sledge Hammer Metal Detector

Beyond the Estate

There is a 1/7 chance for each of the above selections to be chosen. Invalid selections may still be chosen, in which case the Commissary will continue down the list until a valid selection is found, looping back to the top if necessary.

Each Commissary contains physical, non-interactable models of the items for sale behind the counter, clearly visible while using the shop interface. Multiple copies of most special items are shown. Purchasing a special item marks it as being "Owned.", though the number of visible items in the back of the Commissary doesn't change. Special items are also marked "Owned." if they are found elsewhere in the estate before being bought, preventing the Commissary from selling additional copies of them.

Resource items have multiple stock and can be purchased a number of times before being marked as "Sold Out". The exact stock can be seen behind the counter and is visually depleted with each purchase.

  • Gems have 5 stock.
  • Keys have 3 stock.
  • Bananas have 4 stock.
  • Sets of gems have only 1 stock, but contain 4 gems, working out to 2.5 per gem.

Reserve selections

With enough special items at the time the Commissary is drafted, it is possible that none of the seven usual selections are valid. This can occur with just two or three items, e.g. a Shovel and a Sledge Hammer.

When this happens, one of the following selections is chosen. The Shovel is always included if it is available, and the Commissary's Upgrade Disk is included if one has not already been used. Once an Upgraded Disk has been bought from the Commissary and used, the selections offering it become permanently unavailable. The selection containing bananas is only ever offered as a last resort.

The reserve selection with a Shovel but no Upgrade Disk appears to be visually bugged, as it has unpurchasable Upgrade Disks in the background and the price tags point to incorrect locations on the screen.

Commissary Sale

On days 20 and 21, the prices of all items sold in the Commissary are reduced by half, rounded up. This sale is unique to the Commissary, independent of the Sail Sale, and does not apply to other Shops.

Sold Out

A special item appearing for sale in the Commissary is not removed from the item pool until bought, and thus can still spawn in rooms drafted after the Commissary. If this happens and that item is removed from the item pool, the item becomes sold out in the Commissary.

This section contains spoilers for an Outer Room.

Trading items away in the Trading Post adds the traded item back into the item pool. If the Commissary shop was opened while the item was not in the item pool, the item remains sold out even after trading. If the Commissary shop was not opened while the item was not in the item pool, the item is still available for purchase afterwards.

Note that it is still impossible to buy the same item twice as the shop is open immediately after purchasing a special item.

Documents

  • A poster indicating the days of the sale can be found on the wall just right of the shop.

Left of the shop is a pin board with several documents.

  • A staff notice mentions the transition from paper-based payroll systems to electronic terminals and tells of the location of two of them: Security and the Laboratory. The password to access the network where payroll is managed is crossed out.
    • This poster also appears in Security and the Upgrade Disk [Upgrade Spoiler: Break Room] .
  • A memo states that the Commissary is closed on days 12, 13, 14, 15 and 16.
    • As this is a red memo, it is false; there are no known days where the Commissary is unavailable.
  • Though not inspectable, the Commissary contains twin artwork with sticky notes pointing to them. The left frame is marked by "WITH?" and the right frame is marked "WITHOUT?"

Interactions

  • Activating The Sail will cause the Commissary items to go on sale today. This sale works identically to the Commissary's own sale, except that the sale poster is replaced by the Sale Sail poster. A badge for The Sail also appears in the shop interface.

Special Orders

Spoilers Within

This section contains spoilers for the network.

When accessing the network from any computer terminal, there is a function within Staff Services named "Special Orders". From this menu, a special item can be selected which will be guaranteed to appear in the Commissary. All special items from the Commissary's special item pool can be chosen other than Salt Shaker and Upgrade Disk.

Although the Special Order is variously stated to take either 1-2 days or 1-3 days in the menu, in actuality it always takes exactly 1 day. After an order is made, the terminal will return to the network main menu and will not accept any new Special Orders today, stating that the current order is "processing". Starting from the next day, the next drafted Commissary is guaranteed to offer a selection containing the chosen item. For instance, choosing Brass Compass will ensure that the next Commissary drafted tomorrow will contain a Salt Shaker, a Compass, a Shovel, and a Sledge Hammer, as long as all of those items are available in the item pool.

Special Orders last until a Commissary is drafted with the ordered item in stock, after which the order is fulfilled and future Commissaries return to their normal stock. Unlike with regular random Commissary selections, Special Orders are deterministic and choose from a set list of basic Commissary selections that all contain the ordered item. These lists are ordered; the Commissary will always choose the top selection on the list for which all special items are available. The last selection on each list is a reserve selection, unique to the Special Order, consists of just the ordered item and assorted resource items which differ depending on the order.

If the ordered item is already owned or in the estate before the Commissary is drafted, the Special Order is ignored and the Commissary defaults to the standard selections. The Special Order then applies to the next Commissary drafted instead.

* These selections have broken visuals, with incorrect items in the back such as Upgrade Disks and labels pointing in the wrong places.

Not all possible basic selections are included. Selection B, containing a Shovel and Salt Shaker along with gems and keys, cannot be found when ordering a Shovel. Additionally, selection C is never chosen when ordering a Sledge Hammer even though C contains a Sledge Hammer.

If a new Special Order is made while a Special Order is already active, the new Special Order will start the following day, overriding the existing Special Order if it was not fulfilled today.

There was a bug in which the orders for Brass Compass, Magnifying Glass, and Metal Detector could provide the special selection with the item regardless or whether or not that item is available. For those orders, if the item was held or on the estate, the item would immediately marked as "Owned." This seems to have been fixed in Patch 1.6.

As a Shop

Additional information

The inactive arcade cabinet
  • The Commissary contains a "Dirigiblocks" arcade cabinet which cannot be interacted with.
    • It has been stated that the Dirigiblocks minigame will be added to Blue Prince in Patch 1.10, though it is unclear if it will be accessible via this cabinet.
    • In the Utility Closet, there is a crossed out label that reads "CABINET" with no associated switch. It is possible that this label is meant to correspond to this inactive arcade cabinet.
  • The Commissary's floorplan icon appears on page 10 of Drafting Strategy: Architectural Digest Vol. 1 as an example of a Shop.
  • The Commissary can be glimpsed on the monitors in the Security cinematic, though not on the actual Security monitors themselves.
  • Prior to Patch 1.6, certain item selections in the Commissary had discrepancies in their price labels while on sale. These discrepancies were purely visual and did not affect their actual cost.
    • Running Shoes were always shown with the undiscounted price of 8 in the shop menu, but only cost 4 to purchase on sale.
    • In the selection containing the Compass, the Salt Shaker's price was shown as 2 but actually cost 3 on sale.
