Compass
The Compass is a special item in Blue Prince. It alters the drafting process while held, affecting the orientation of drawn floorplans so that they point northwards more often.

Usage
The Compass acts during a unique step of the drafting process during which the orientation of L-shape and T-shape floorplans is determined. The Compass only affects the orientation of these rooms; it does not affect how likely any particular floorplan or shape of floorplan is to be drawn.
Usually, orientations that have a north doorway are less common, and orientations with a south doorway are more common. While holding the Compass, the probabilities are altered so that drawn floorplans will almost always be orientated to have a doorway facing north if able. When drawing a T-shape room such as the Den northwards for example, the orientation with no north doorway is usually the most common, but with the Compass this orientation is impossible.
If there are no valid orientations with a north doorway, such as when drafting southwards or when drawing an L-shape room such as the Pantry northwards, the Compass has no effect.

Spoilers Within
This section contains spoilers for the Workshop.
The Compass can be used as a component in two different contraptions in the Workshop:
- Compass + Battery Pack = Powered Electromagnet
- Compass + Shovel = Dowsing Rod
Both contraptions inherit the Compass' ability while also gaining new unique effects. Strictly speaking, the Compass' ability is gained for the rest of the day whenever it is used to assemble a contraption, even if that contraption is lost or never picked up. Neither contraption adds the model of the Compass or its own model to the drafting interface to indicate that it has an effect on drafting.
If the Powered Electromagnet or Dowsing Rod is stored in Coat Check or carried over to another day with the Moon Pendant, the Compass' effect will be active for the full day. This can again happen even if the contraption is never actually collected. The actual Compass is unobtainable while a contraption's Compass effect is active.
