Much greater chance of finding and while digging.
The Detector Shovel is a special item in Blue Prince. It is a contraption that improves upon the basic functionality of the Shovel while also retaining the detecting qualities of the Metal Detector.
How to obtain
As a contraption, the Detector Shovel can only be obtained in the Workshop by combining the Metal Detector and the Shovel.
Usage
The Detector Shovel inherits the functionality of both of its components.
Detection
The Detector Shovel can both cause additional keys and coins to appear in newly drafted rooms, and detect certain metallic items nearby. These effects are identical to those of the Metal Detector; see Metal Detector#Usage for more information.
Digging
The Detector Shovel can excavate dig spots by interacting with them, identically to the Shovel. It cannot excavate dig spots that have already been dug up by the Shovel.
While the items found by the Detector Shovel are similar to those of the Shovel, the probabilities are skewed significantly, with keys and large piles of gold being frequent finds. Possible items when digging with the Detector Shovel include:
- 1 to 4 coins, with 3 and 4 being much more likely
- A basic key, which is again much more likely
- Broken Lever
- Secret Garden Key
- Silver Key
- Vault Key 149
- Vault Key 304
The Detector Shovel still has a chance to dig up trash, but the chance is reduced, and only includes tin cans and rusty nails. Unlike the Shovel, the Detector Shovel cannot dig up turnips.
Interactions
- The Detector Shovel may be stored in Coat Check or retained with the Moon Pendant like any other special item. Starting the day with the Detector Shovel in Coat Check, or with it already in the inventory due to the Moon Pendant, will cause both the Metal Detector and the Shovel to be unobtainable today.
- Using the Detector Shovel may trigger a particular experimental trigger which is activated by digging up trash. Digging up nothing at all does not count for this experimental trigger.
- [Studio Addition: The Kennel] Using the Jack Hammer to dig in a room while the Kennel is in the estate will unlock all doors that room. This includes digging for treasure.
