A very modest recessed space used for storage. This particular closet is favored by the junior members of the staff, who utilize it to stash away assorted articles and knicknacks[sic] whose proper place in the estate is yet unknown to them.
― Room Directory

The Closet is a room in Blue Prince. It is listed as Room 009 in the Room Directory.

Drafting

The Closet has no normal drafting restrictions.

Spoilers Within

This section contains spoilers for Chamber of Mirrors.

The duplicate added by the Chamber of Mirrors, when at least one copy was drafted before the Chamber of Mirrors was drafted, is unable to spawn when drafting horizontally into B9 or D9. The permanent duplicate is also not added to the draft pool for those locations, and as such only the first copy can be drafted from those doorways.

The Closet is guaranteed to appear on the very first draft of the game, in the second slot alongside the Bedroom and Hallway.

When there are no rooms in the group (free/gem) in the draft pool that are able to spawn from a normal draw, the Closet will be drawn instead. This includes the filters for the previous round and previous draws in the current round.

Items

The Closet always contains two items from the following list, usually in and around an open box near the floor. This number is not affected by luck. The items are never both special items.

The special items and resource items in this room's spawn pool are entirely separate. There is a 50% chance to get a random special item; all other items will be random resource items. If no special items in the spawn pool are available, it produces one of the resource items instead.

On Day 1, if when Veteran Mode is not active and the Closet is not upgraded, the special item is guaranteed (unless none are available).

Interactions

  • The Closet cannot be drafted from the Library.
  • [Chamber of Mirrors Spoiler] The Chamber of Mirrors may contain a physical copy of the Closet's floorplan in one of its cabinets which can be permanently added to the draft pool.

Edit this section at Closet/Upgrades.

The Closet is one of the floorplans which may be randomly selected when using an Upgrade Disk at a computer terminal.

There are three possible upgrades:

Floorplan Effect Description
ClosetHallwayUpgradeIcon.png 2 items

+1 extra items if drafted adjoined to a HALLWAY
No change
ClosetBedroomUpgradeIcon.png 2 items

+2 extra items if drafted adjoined to a BEDROOM
No change
ClosetEmptyUpgradeIcon.png 0 items

+4 extra items if drafted adjoined to a RED ROOM
No change

All three upgrades have a very similar effect: if you draft the upgraded Closet from a room of a particular color, you will find additional items. Upgraded Closets empowered this way contain 1 special item, with a [Datamined Information] 80% chance to contain another. The rest of the items are the resource items in the room's spawn pool.

Upgraded Closets use the same item pool as the basic Closet. If the pool is depleted, [Datamined Information] as in there are not enough special items in the spawn pool for the required amount to spawn (even if there is one item remaining in the pool), an empowered Hallway Closet will contain all three of its basic items. An empowered Bedroom or Empty Closet drafted with a depleted pool will contain an additional key for a total of 2, 1, and 1.

If the Hallway or Bedroom Closet is not drafted from the respective color of room, the resulting items are given in the exact same way as the unupgraded Closet, [Datamined Information] except the guaranteed Day 1 special item.

While the Bedroom Closet may seem to be strictly better than the other upgrades based solely on the number of items it provides, it is worth noting that Bedrooms tend to have significantly fewer doors than other types of room, and that most Bedrooms are Dead Ends that cannot be drafted from at all.

Empty Closet

The ominously glowing Empty Closet after being drafted from an Aquarium. Contains an ivory die, a basic key, a Silver Key, and a Keycard.

The Empty Closet has more significant changes than the other upgrades. It becomes a Red Room and is no longer a Blueprint, causing it to gain the following interactions:

Cosmetically, the Empty Closet takes on an eerie, red hue.

The Empty Closet no longer contains any items when drafted from a non-Red Room. This is considered a negative effect and can be sheltered against, causing it to contain two items again.

The Empty Closet containing a banana, ivory die, gem, and three basics keys. The larger metal key is actually two keys perfectly overlapping.

If the Empty Closet is protected by Shelter when drafted from a Red Room, it will contain six items. The two additional items are always a banana and a basic key, which do not spawn under normal circumstances; the key here is the same key that spawns as a last resort when the special items are depleted. If an Empty Closet is drafted this way while the pool is depleted, there will be two keys in the same location.

[Secret Shop Item: Knight's Shield] For some reason, Knight's Shield works differently to Shelter here, and has no effect on an empowered Empty Closet. If an empowered Empty Closet is both protected by Shelter and shielded by Knight's Shield, the shielding takes priority and only four items spawn. The Knight's Shield still negates the negative effect when the Empty Closet is not drafted from a Red Room and will bring the item count back up to two.
