Ivory Dice
Ivory Dice, usually just called dice, are a resource in Blue Prince. Their sole use is to redraw floorplans during the drafting process, providing more control over which floorplans are drafted. They are frequently referred to in-game using the icon.
As a resource item, ivory dice are found as either singular items, each of which is usually called an ivory die, or pairs of dice which are collected together. Unlike most resource items, ivory dice have some similarities with special items in the way they are spawned and are collected. Nevertheless, ivory dice never go to the inventory and instead tick up a counter on the top of the screen, which is visible only if the number of held dice has been increased, decreased or otherwise modified today. Like other resources, the number of held dice is reset to 0 at the start of each new day.
How to obtain
Ivory dice have two technically different associated resource items:
- A singular ivory die, which provides 1 when picked up
- A pair of ivory dice, which provide 2 when picked up
These items act somewhat differently from other resource items. Rather than floating to the top of the screen, collecting a dice item causes it to vanish and then appear in a full screen descriptive message, similar to special items. This only occurs once per day, after which collecting either dice item causes them to simply vanish and increment the dice count.
Each particular dice item has its own possible rooms and locations it may spawn in like any other resource item. However, some dice spawns seem to be treated like special item spawns and cannot appear if that particular dice item has already spawned elsewhere on the same day. This does not apply to all dice item spawns and it is particularly difficult to identify exactly which spawns it applies to.
Beyond the Estate
This section contains datamined information about special dice. It may contain spoilers for various stages of the game.
The global spawn pool for resource items contains a pair of dice as one of the items. Some sources that can give a pair of dice specifically give this pair, and will have the item removed from the spawn pool if it has been spawned today.
Sources that use this special dice are:
- Trunk
- Cloister of Mila into a Nursery
- Walk-In Closet
- Packages from the Mail Room

Rooms and locations with guaranteed dice items
- [Outer Room: Tomb] secret: The pair of candles by the entrance of the Tomb, when lit by an ignition tool, has 2 pairs of dice behind it. On future days (after initially opened), it only has one pair.
- [Found Floorplan: Mechanarium] The fourth diagonal door of the Mechanarium, after the Sanctum Key has been used, contains 4 pairs of dice for a total of 8.
- [Upgrade Spoiler: Boudoir] One upgrade for the Boudoir ensures that it always contains a pair of dice.
- [Upgrade Spoiler: Guest Bedroom] The Geist Bedroom upgrade always contains a pair of ivory dice, plus two more pairs with a Tomb on the estate for 6 total.
Effects that provide or manipulate dice directly
- Several experimental effects can provide dice:
- One effect sets the number of dice to 2.
- One effect provides a key, gem or die, selected randomly.
- [Satellite Dish Spoiler] One effect, added by raising the Satellite Dish and downloading the data packet, gives the player four dice at the cost of taking half of their steps.
- [Outer Room: Shrine] Drafting any Shop with the Blessing of the High Roller provides 1.
- [Steam Power Spoiler: Laundry Room] While the Laundry Room is receiving steam power, the specialty services includes an option to swap the held quantities of dice with keys. Combined with the other laundry services, this can be used to amass incredible quantities of dice.
- [Upgrade Spoiler: Cloister] The Cloister of Draxus provides 4 whenever a Dead End is drafted from it.
Usage
During drafting, while the player has at least one dice, a drafting option appears with a 3D model of a die that says "REDRAW Floorplans". Selecting this option discards the three currently drawn floorplans and draws three new ones. This also causes the model of the die to roll across the drafting interface and land in its original spot; if there are still dice left over, the option reappears, otherwise the die tumbles offscreen and vanishes. There is no limit to how many times ivory dice can be used each draft, other than the number of dice available.
Other interactions
- Both types of dice items can be seen on the Security inventory in the special items section. This interaction is inconsistent, as some dice item spawns show up on Security whereas some do not. Additionally, pairs of ivory dice are confusingly listed as
1 IVORY DICE. - [Outer Room: Shrine] Using a die to redraw floorplans during drafting while the Blessing of the High Roller is active gives the player 5.
Additional information
- According to Drafting Strategy: Architectural Digest Vol. 1, ivory dice are the only non-permanent resource to have no associated color.
