A standard hub of domestic toil complete with washers, dryers and a state of the art steampowered unit leveraging the newly installed steam ducts leading from the boiler room. Despite its innocent appearance, this inconspicuous space is rumored to launder more than just linen.

There is a hidden dig spot in the Laundry Room that provides a File Cabinet Key when dug. The exact location is shown in one of the tanks of the Aquarium once the water has been drained to a level of 1 or lower using the Pump Room.

If the key is dug and lost before being used, it spawns on top of a machine next to the dig spot without needing to be dug up again. The key stops appearing after it has been used.

[Usage] This key from this location is used on a filing cabinet drawer second from the bottom in the Archives, which is also emphasized by a tank in the drained Aquarium.

Effect

The Laundry Room is a Shop that sells "Laundry Services" which swap the amounts of two resources that the player has. These swaps can be purchased any number of times, subject to their cost in gold. There is no way to get a partial swap; if the two resources have drastically different amounts, they will remain drastically different after the swap but in the other direction.

Name Cost Resource #1 Resource #2
Spin Cycle 5
Wash & Dry 5
Fluff & Fold 10

The cost of a service is paid before a service is performed. For instance, purchasing the Spin Cycle with 20 and 4 will first reduce coins to 15 and then swap the totals, leaving the player with 4 and 15.

After purchasing any service, if the number of coins is somehow greater than 99999, it is reduced to 99999 before swapping.

The additional machine glowing with steam power
The Laundry Room has power ducts running across the ceiling and connecting to its door, allowing it to receive steam power. It must be drafted from either a power source, e.g. the Boiler Room, or from another room with ducts which can receive steam power. It also has an increased chance to draw and be drawn from certain other rooms with ducts.

While the Laundry Room is receiving steam power, an additional machine becomes available on the left side of the room. This machine offers three additional "Specialty Services" which exchange resources like the main services but with one or more new resources in each exchange:

Name Cost Resource #1 Resource #2
Shoe Shine 5
Star Treatment 5
Die Cleaning 5

The Star Treatment exchanges the two permanent resources, allowance and stars. More exchanges can be made in future days by powering a Laundry Room again if switching back is desired.

The machine is only available while powered, and diverting steam power away from the Laundry Room will disable it again until the steam power is returned.

Additional information

  • The Laundry Room is represented by one of the fish tanks in the Aquarium, which contains gold coral, models of miniature washing machines and a laundry basket.
  • [Mail Room Experiment Spoiler] The Laundry Room is mentioned in Randolph's fourth letter to the Mail Room, in a diagram which suggests that it can benefit from steam power from the Boiler Room.
