Two stories of wall-to-wall books surround the reader in this room, exhibiting either a bountiful spring of knowledge or typical interior design sensibilities of the wealthy. A few books have been withdrawn from the shelves and placed on rostrum stands in various corners of the library.

The Dynamic Rarity of the Library is normally Standard, but is instead Rare before Day 5 if Veteran Mode is not enabled.

  • If Veteran Mode is enabled on Day 1 by performing fast drafts, the Dynamic Rarity is set to Unusual for the day.

Items

The Library has a chance to contain an item from the following is a list of possibilities. Items may be found on the central table or, in the case of the trunk, against the wall.

Does it never end?

This list may be incomplete. If you find an item not on this list, you can help by adding this location to its item page.

Documents

The Library contains several documents:

  • A tip by an armchair in one corner of the room informs players about the Room Directory and how to access it.
  • Two opposite corners of the room have lecturns with indistinguishable blank books that can't be interacted with.
  • The table in the center contains either a book request form or a library book, depending on whether a book was requested the last time the Library was drafted.
  • The final corner of the Library has a spiral staircase that leads to a second floor. Upstairs, two more lecturns can be found displaying Mount Holly Records and Mount Holly Scrapbook, books which contain statistics and milestones of the current save file.

None of the bookcases lining the walls of the Library can be interacted with.

Requesting Library books

The first time the Library is drafted, it always contains a book request form. Viewing the form allows one of six titles to be selected and signs the card with the player character's name. It is possible to change a request after making it, as long as it is changed before another Library is drafted. If there are multiple Libraries in the house, then making or changing any choice on one form will make the same choice on the other forms.

There are six options:

Once a book is chosen, it will spawn inside the next Library drafted, where it can be read. Each Library book has a pouch on the inside cover with a borrower log, which will be permanently updated with Simon's name and the current date whenever the book is borrowed. (Not when the book is requested.)

Borrowing library books is not permanent, and a borrowed book will be replaced by the book request form again the next time the Library is drafted. Books must be re-requested in order to be borrowed again.

Main article: Bookshop

The Library is unique in that it is the only room from which it is possible to draw the Bookshop. This floorplan can only be drawn after making some progress into the game, and only once per day, even with multiple Libraries.

The Bookshop sells additional books which, when purchased, may be requested in Library and borrowed. Bookshop purchases are permanent and once one or more have been made, newly drafted Libraries will contain an expanded book request form with the additional options.

If the Library has the old form when new Bookshop books are purchased for the first time, then it won't be replaced by the new form and the new books cannot be requested that day. however if the Library has the new form, then the new options are instantaneously added and can be requested immediately.

Books purchased from the Bookshop feature a stamp on the inside cover, crediting the player for their donation. They have no prior borrowing history aside from requests made by the player.

Six new books may be purchased from the Bookshop and subsequently borrowed from the Library:

Drafting effect

Drafting from the Library

While drafting from the Library's sole drafting door, the normal rarity rules are ignored and there is a significantly increased change to draw Unusual and Rare floorplans, with roughly equal preference for each. Standard floorplans are usually only drawn once rarer floorplans are being depleted, and Commonplace floorplans are virtually only ever drawn if they are the only remaining options, such as due to extensive redrawing. While this effect is active, an open book appears below the drawn floorplans.

Additionally, several floorplans are filtered out from the Library and cannot be drafted under its effect by any means, regardless of rarity:

A further list of floorplans is filtered out while drafting in the Library with fewer than two gems. This list amounts to all floorplans that cost 2 or more except for Rotunda, Office, Veranda, and Studio Additions [Studio Addition: Vestibule], thus making it significantly more likely that all drawn floorplans are affordable.

Finally, one Found Floorplan is filtered out only when two or more gems are held:

The Library's filtering behavior can change dynamically if the number of held gems changes mid-draft, e.g. due to the effect of the Study.

When drafting normally from the Library, the normal drafting routine still occurs, with some changes:

  • When choosing between rarities, the following probabilities are used:
    • Commonplace: 0%
    • Standard: 0.01%
    • Unusual: 49.99%
    • Rare: 50%
  • When the required minimum deck size is not met while choosing between rarities, the default priority order for checking additional decks is changed to Rare > Unusual > Standard > Commonplace.
  • Slot 3 is always a Gem Draw. Slot 2 is always a Gem Draw if you have at least 1, and is otherwise always a Free Draw.
  • An additional filter is added to remove all the rooms on the list above.
  • It is possible for a Bookshop to spawn in Slot 3. See its page for details.

Note that certain features are not on this list; filters and special draws can still apply, although the Forced Draw is likely the only one to be relevant for this application.

These effects do not apply when using a Silver Key, even when it calls the normal drafting routine as part of its algorithm.

Interactions

  • If a Silver Key is used in the Library, the Silver Key's effect will take priority. Rooms that ordinarily can't be drafted in the Library will be available to draft.
    • Although the Prism Key can't ordinarily be used in the Library, it is possible to use it on a locked non-drafting door, such as those of the Great Hall, and then immediately draft from the Library to perform a Hallways-locked draft. This will also take priority and allow rooms to appear that ordinarily would not.
  • Upgrade Disk [Upgrade Spoiler: Nook] While drafting from the Reading Nook, the floorplan in the third slot will always be the Library. This happens even if floorplans are redrawn; even if the Library is no longer in the draft pool due to being drafted elsewhere; even when using Silver Key or Prism Key; and even if it has been removed entirely via Repellent. However, drafting the Library this way will still pull it from the draft pool, preventing the Library from being drafted elsewhere in the house. As the Reading Nook can allow a second Library to be drafted, it can be used to request a Library book and then read it on the same day.

As a Drafting Room

  • Studio Additions [Studio Addition: Dormitory] Entering the Dormitory after drafting the Library will grant 10.
  • Studio Additions [Studio Addition: Classroom] Drafting the Library provides an additional redraw when drafting in a Classroom.
