The Office is a room in Blue Prince, listed as Room 024 in the Room Directory. As the office used personally and extensively by Herbert Sinclair, it has several notable points of interest and lies in the intersection of a number of the game's puzzles. A computer terminal is used to carry out the Office's gold generating effects.
The Office initially contains an Upgrade Disk on the desk, right next to a terminal where it can be used immediately.
Additionally, there is a chance for one of the following items to appear on the desk or, in the case of the trunk, by the wall:
* Each gold pile is a separate possible item. With high luck, multiple gold piles with different totals may appear.
Photographs of Simon Sinclair and Clara Epsen can be found in a hinged photo frame on a shelf behind the desk.
On the desk, an anonymous note implies the existence of an antechamber lever in the Greenhouse, claiming that it is broken. It also implies the existence of two other "west" and "east" levers.
There is a partially opened drawer in the desk that can be opened further by interacting with it. Inside is a note to Bridgette, likely written by the same person as the previous note based on the handwriting, requesting a selection of books from Reddington. "MARCH OF THE COUNT" is written in black ink, whereas the rest of the titles are in red.
*Or possibly "HEARINGS".
The drawer also contains a switch taped to the inside, with wires leading further in. Interacting with this switch causes a hidden compartment to open up on a wall on the opposite side of the room, revealing a safe. A numeric code is required to open the safe.
Neither the state of the drawer, nor the hidden switch, are innately permanent.
The code to the safe is 0303. The "date" that this code corresponds to is March 3rd: "March" comes from the note in the drawer, as "MARCH OF THE COUNT" is the only title not written in red; the "3" comes from counting the small busts of Count Isaac Gates in the room. Unlike most other safes, the date variations 33, 033, and 303 do not work.
The safe contains a ruby and a red letter marked by a lemniscate representing the number 8, written by the blackmailer "X" and addressed to Herbert Sinclair. Opening the safe immediately considers the letter to be discovered and adds a red letter mark to the blueprint menu. Afterwards, the safe and secret compartment remain permanently open and cannot be closed, allowing an additional gem to be acquired in the Office on future days.
The Office is home to one of the estate's computer terminals, named Mt. HOLLY HOME OFFICE on its home screen. The terminal has two unique processes, both of which are used to carry out the Office's gold generating effects, plus the standard network access.
When this process is run, 10
will appear in both the Maid's Chamber and the Servant's Quarters. The gold comes in two piles of 5
and is accompanied by a payslip. Although the terminal says that gold and appears in each staff member's room currently in the estate, the order does not actually matter; pay will appepar regardless of whether the room is drafted before the payroll is issued, or afterwards. Unlike the other process below, the payroll is not a spread effect and has no interaction with the Conference Room.
The payroll has a cooldown when issued, generally disabling it for a week or more. Although the terminal says that the process may be run again starting Monday next week, it actually seems to reset on Saturdays. The cooldown may last until the coming Saturday or the Saturday afterwards, with no clear pattern between them.
If you've found a new clue, you know what to do.
How exactly is the payroll cooldown determined?
Additionally, after Day 85, the cooldown seems to be removed entirely and the process can be used every day, though still not more than once per day. It is not clear if this is intended.
When this process is run, piles of coins will be spread throughout all currently drafted rooms in the estate. This may include the Office itself, but not any rooms drafted after this is done. This process can be run once per day.
Like other terminals, the Home Office terminal may be used to access the computer network. This requires the terminal password.
From the Network Menu, several services can be accessed including the Office Electronic Mail. The Office terminal is the only terminal for which the mailbox is accessible this way.
Four emails are shown initially, in reverse chronological order. Two more emails are received on specific dates; one on November 23rd 1993, and one on December 7th 1993. The additional emails are each marked with a NEW! indicator that is permanently removed upon reading the email.
From the admin terminal in Blackbridge Grotto, it is possible to enable the other mailboxes. It is also possible to disable the Office mailbox, though there is little reason to do this other than to turn the red Laboratory memo blue.
The remainder of the busts can be identified by the plaques in the Foyer. The other large bust depicts Count Isaac Gates. For the small busts, there are:
