A small "deadend" room with an ordinary bookcase, that exemplifies that the best means to escape the confinements of our world has always been through books.
― Room Directory

The Secret Passage is a room in Blue Prince. It is listed as Room 6 of the Hallways page in the Room Directory.

Drafting restrictions

The Secret Passage has several restrictions that prevent it from leading into a corner:

  • The Secret Passage cannot be drafted on Rank 1 or 9.
  • Initiating a draft on the West Wing or East Wing, either northward into Rank 8 or southward into Rank 2, will block the Secret Passage floorplan from being drawn normally. This block lasts until another draft is initiated else elsewhere on the wings of the house (going northward or southward specifically, and not into a corner), which has the unexpected consequence of making the Secret Passage impossible to draft in the center in the meantime.
    • It is possible to draft it regardless in this location (or even in this state) with a Silver Key if the draft pool contains no rooms with 3 (or more) doors (and Locker Room) that can spawn in the location (i.e. they have all already been drafted).

The Secret Passage cannot itself be drawn during a color-selective draft, e.g. from a Prism Key.

The Secret Passage spawns significantly more often if a Greenhouse is drafted.

By drafting the Secret Passage against an already opened door, or by drafting a room with a doorway pointing into the back of the Secret Passage, it is possible to gain access to the secret area without pulling a book. Doing so reveals the back of the bookcase, which is impassable but has a cryptic clue carved into the back of it.

It is also possible to see by looking carefully in the gap between the door and wall after it is opened.

Significance of the clue: It is a fragment of the Castle Puzzle.

Effect

Inside the Secret Passage there are five color coded books on the shelf, each representing a type of room:

  • The Halls of Holly
  • Green Thumb
  • The Key to the Bedroom
  • Red Rover
  • Goldsink

If a book is pulled from the bookshelf, it will open the passage to a hidden door of the chosen color. Drafting from this door will only draw floorplans of the same color, allowing players to narrow down and control the draft a lot more effectively.

Interactions

  • If the Prism Key is used in the Secret Passage, the Prism Key's effect will take priority and the chosen color will be ignored, resulting in a Hallway draft.

As a Hallway

  • West Path [Outer Room: Shrine] Drafting the Secret Passage while cursed will cause the player to lose 1.

As a "Dead End"

Additional information

  • The Secret Passage books are one of the few times that the five alternate colors are shown out of the standard order of Bedroom, Hallway, Green Room, Shop and Red Room.
