Usage
While holding a Shovel, it is possible to excavate dig spots by interacting with them.
Dig spots can contain resource items and more rarely special items, but also have a significant chance to provide nothing, or junk which is immediately discarded. Excavated items are found with a unique pickup screen that says "You DUG UP" rather than the usual "You FOUND".
The useful items include:
Does it never end?
This list may be incomplete. You can help by expanding it.
- Anywhere from 1 to 4 coins
- A basic key
- A turnip (immediately consumed to gain 6)
- Broken Lever
- Secret Garden Key
- Silver Key
- Vault Key 149
- Vault Key 233
- Vault Key 304
- Vault Key 370
The useless items include:
- Nothing at all
- One of the following junk items, labelled "Not worth picking up":
Each dig spot can only be excavated once. The excavated items do not exist in the estate until they are dug up, e.g. they do not appear in the Security inventory.
Spoilers Within
This section contains spoilers for the Workshop.
The Shovel can be used as a component in three different contraptions in the Workshop:
- Shovel + Broken Lever + Battery Pack = Jack Hammer
- Shovel + Metal Detector = Detector Shovel
- Shovel + Compass = Dowsing Rod
The Jack Hammer and Detector Shovel each improve upon the Shovel's basic functionality, with the Jack Hammer digging up higher quality items more often and the Detector Shovel consistently digging up keys and coins. These two contraptions will prevent the Shovel from being obtainable on subsequent days if they are carried through by the Moon Pendant or stored in Coat Check.
The Dowsing Rod loses the ability to excavate, and never prevents the Shovel from being obtained when carried through to later days.
Interactions
- Using the Shovel may trigger a particular experimental trigger which is activated by digging up trash. Digging up nothing at all does not count for this experimental trigger.
- [Studio Addition: The Kennel] Using the Shovel to dig in a room while the Kennel is in the estate will unlock all doors that room. This includes digging for treasure.
Additional information
- The Shovel is mentioned on page 7 of Drafting Strategy: Architectural Digest Vol. 1 as an example of a Green Room synergy.
