An unfurnished, unfinished and otherwise unremarkable empty room. If there had at some point been plans for this spare room, it would seem those designs are now long forgotten.
― Room Directory

The Spare Room is a room in Blue Prince. Listed as Room 003 in the Room Directory, it is an utterly plain room with no documents, secrets or function.

Items

The Spare Room does not usually contain items, being completely devoid of anything useful. However, with high luck, it may contain one or more of the following items on the right side of the room:

Interactions

  • The Spare Room does not count as a Blueprint for effects that cause Blueprints to be drawn more often. [Late-Game Quest Item: Royal Scepter] It also does not count for the Royal Scepter's "call it a day" effect, despite counting for other purposes.
    • Upgrade Disk [Upgrade Spoiler: Spare Room] However, the upgrades that change the room's color function properly with these effects.
  • [Chamber of Mirrors Spoiler] The Chamber of Mirrors may contain a physical copy of the Spare Room's floorplan in one of its cabinets which can be permanently added to the draft pool. Only one additional copy of the Spare Room may be added this way.

The Spare Room is one of the rooms that may be randomly selected when using an Upgrade Disk at a computer terminal.

There are three possible initial upgrades:

Floorplan Effect Description
SpareRoomBedroomUpgradeIcon.png No change An unfurnished, unfinished and otherwise unremarkable empty room. The few strokes of violet paint that were applied before the abandonment of this project seem to imply this room's intended use as a bedroom.
SpareRoomGreenRoomUpgradeIcon.png No change An unfurnished, unfinished and otherwise unremarkable empty room. The few potted plants scattered throughout this empty space compliment the few strokes of green paint that were haphazardly applied to one of this room's unfinished walls.
SpareRoomHallUpgradeIcon.png No change An unfurnished, unfinished and otherwise unremarkable empty room. The few strokes of orange paint that were applied before the abandonment of this project seem to imply this room's intended use as a hallway.

Each upgrade changes the Spare Room's color, causing it to benefit from interactions associated with that type. There are no other mechanical changes, although each upgrade does present its own cosmetic changes.

Does it never end?

Each Spare Room upgrade has its own item pool. If you find any items in your Spare Room upgrade not listed in the sections below, you can help by going to that item's page and adding the upgraded room name as a location.

Spare Bedroom

The Spare Bedroom is a Bedroom and is no longer a Blueprint, causing it to gain the following interactions:

The Spare Bedroom undergoes several cosmetic changes:

  • Its blue paint becomes violet and covers the entire far wall.
  • A purple bed replaces the chair and it now contains a chest of drawers, with a purple lamp.
  • The Spare Bedroom now contains twin artwork. One drawing is on the wall immediately opposite the door from which is drafted, while the other is on the floor to the right, behind the boxes.

The Spare Bedroom may contain one of the following items on the chest of drawers:

Although the Spare Bedroom takes on the name of the Bedroom, it does not share its effect of granting steps on entry.

The Spare Bedroom may also be randomly selected by an Upgrade Disk, making the Spare Room the only room which can be upgraded twice.

There are three possible further upgrades:

Floorplan Effect Description

SpareRoomHerLadyshipsChamberUpgradeIcon.png The next time you enter BOUDOIR, gain +10

The next time you enter WALK-IN CLOSET, gain +3
Assuming that one day she would no longer be content confining herself entirely to the West Wing of the house, one of the planned uses of the Spare Room was to serve as a secondary sleeping quarters for Lady Clara Epsen. Perhaps here, she can finally get the good night's sleep she had been searching for.
SpareRoomMasterBedroomUpgradeIcon.png +1 for each room in your house. No change

Each upgrade causes the Spare Bedroom to mimic the effect and appearance of a particular room in the Bedrooms category:

The effects are identical to the originals in each case. While the upgrades take on much of the cosmetic appearance of the mimicked Bedrooms, including some of the furniture, they still retain the original Spare Room's corridor shape, do not include documents or other points of interest from the mimicked rooms, and never cost gems to draft. Spare Room upgrades never contain chess pieces.

Upgrade Disk [Upgrade Spoiler: Cloister] Upgrading the Spare Bedroom doesn't change which items appear in it when drafted from the Cloister of Mila.

The key holder appears on the left side of the room, as viewed immediately after entering. Additionally, the room contains some other props from the Servant's Quarters including the bell board and ironing board. It also contains props from other rooms, including the hand trolley from the Archives and the typewriter from the Master Bedroom.

The artwork is moved to the wall it is drafted from, with one drawing on either side of the door.

An item can spawn on the bedside table or on the floor beside the bed. Available items seem to include the Spare Bedroom items plus some new possibilities:

Entering a Boudoir or Walk-In Closet with both the Her Ladyship's Chamber and Her Ladyship's Spare Room active will cause both effects to trigger sequentially.

One of the room's drawings is moved to the wall immediately right of the door the room is drafted from. The other is to the left, on a small step letter.

An item may appear on the hexagonal table on the far side of the room. This appears to include most of the Spare Bedroom's item pool, plus some new possibilities:

If you've found a new clue, you know what to do.

Can ivory dice and Car Keys still appear in Her Ladyship's Spare Room?

Entering Her Ladyship's Spare Room does not cause Her Ladyship's Theme to start playing.

The bed moves in this upgrade, replaced by a king-sized bed along the left wall. The artwork moves to small frames that sit on a stand along the right wall. Above the artwork is the family crest.

An item may appear on the right. This appears to include most of the Spare Bedroom's item pool, plus some new possibilities:

If you've found a new clue, you know what to do.

Can Lucky Rabbit's Foot and Car Keys still appear in the Spare Master Chamber?

Spare Greenroom

The Spare Greenroom is a Green Room and is no longer a Blueprint, causing it to gain the following interactions:

  • Drafting the Greenhouse makes Spare Greenroom more common today.
  • Spare Greenroom is more likely to contain random items when drafted while the Veranda is on the estate.
  • Drafting the Patio may spread a green gem to Spare Greenroom.
  • The Watering Can can be used once in Spare Greenroom to exchange one 1 for 1.
  • Drafting Spare Greenroom after activating Florealis, Bloom of the Sky today will cause it to contain a gem flower.
  • Spare Greenroom is drawn significantly more often during a Green Rooms-restricted draft, initiated by using the green book in the Secret Passage or by using the Prism Key on a locked Green Room door.
  • West Path [Outer Room: Shrine] Drafting Spare Greenroom while cursed will cause the player to lose 1.
  • Upgrade Disk [Upgrade Spoiler: Nursery] Drafting Spare Greenroom will cause 2 to appear in the Indoor Nursery.
  • Upgrade Disk [Upgrade Spoiler: Cloister] Drafting Spare Greenroom from the Cloister of Rynna will increase luck today.

The Spare Greenroom undergoes a few cosmetic changes:

  • Its blue paint becomes green and covers the entire far wall.
  • Four plant pots are placed around the room, and a small glass table appears in one corner.

The Spare Greenroom is the only upgrade to not gain paired artwork.

There may be one of the following items on or by the glass table:

The Spare Greenroom may also be randomly selected by an Upgrade Disk, making the Spare Room the only room which can be upgraded twice.

There are three possible further upgrades:

Floorplan Effect Description
SpareRoomVerandaUpgradeIcon.png Greater chance of finding items in Green Rooms. No change
SpareRoomTerraceUpgradeIcon.png Green Rooms do not cost to draft. No change
SpareRoomPatioUpgradeIcon.png Spread in each Green Room. No change

Each upgrade causes the Spare Greenroom to mimic the effect and appearance of a particular room in the Green Room category:

  • The Spare Veranda mimics the Veranda.
  • The Spare Terrace mimics the Terrace.
  • The Spare Patio mimics the Patio.

The effects are identical to the originals in each case. While the upgrades take on much of the cosmetic appearance of the mimicked Green Rooms, including some of the furniture, they still retain the original Spare Room's corridor shape, do not include documents or other points of interest from the mimicked rooms, and never cost gems to draft. Not only are all the effects from existing Green Rooms, they are all also effects that interact with Green Rooms specifically, and can interact and compound with their original mimicked rooms variously.

Despite all three mimicked rooms having specific drafting requirements that demand they be drafted on the wings of the house, the Spare Greenroom upgrades do not inherit these requirements and can still be drafted in the interior of the house. To maintain the impression of outdoorsiness, the right wall of each Spare Greenroom upgrade now has a scenic landscape of what seems to be the eastern edge of the estate painted on. Plants hang from the ceiling in front of the painting and a Green Room styled white fence goes along the lower right wall, with a wooden painting palette still lying on top.

None of the upgrades contain paired artwork.

If you've found a new clue, you know what to do.

Can Broken Lever and Watering Can still appear in any of the Spare Greenroom's upgrades?

The glass table is removed, replaced by a box containing one of the plant pots which has been packed away. The Veranda furniture appears on the right side of the room, admiring the view.

The Spare Veranda may have one of the following items, either by the far door or on the small table. Note that the Spare Veranda's effect applies to itself, meaning that it always has boosted luck.

This effect and the Terrace's effect are redundant together.

The glass table is moved to the right of the room, sandwiched between two Terrace loungechairs pointing at the painted wall. The four plants are gone, replaced by two larger plant pots in the corners by the painted wall. The "view" from the Spare Terrace is slightly different from the other rooms, with no hanging plants and a mural that is zoomed in on the upper, more distant terrain. This is likely to reflect the higher and further view that the Terrace provides.

The Spare Terrace may have one of the following items, either beside the far door or on the glass table:

The Spare Patio becomes a Spread Room in addition to its other types.

Like the Patio, this room will often spread a green gem to itself.

The right side of the room has the Patio furniture pointed towards the painted wall, while the barbeque equipment is on the left hand side. The glass table is removed.

The Spare Patio may also contain an item either by the far door or on the barbeque stand:

* This gem is separate from the gem that it may spread to itself; it is possible for both to spawn.

  • West Path [Outer Room: Shrine] While the Blessing of the Chef is active, activating the Spare Patio's spread effect by drafting it can add a dish to the Dining Room, the same as with the regular Patio. This dish, Sloppy Jim, provides 5 and 1, with a further +1 if there is a Gymnasium in the house.

Spare Hall

The Spare Hall is a Hallway and is no longer a Blueprint, causing it to gain the following interactions:

The Spare Hall undergoes several cosmetic changes:

  • Its blue paint becomes orange and covers the entire far wall.
  • A few rolls of Hallway-style wallpaper lie on and by the chair, and a small table sits by the far door.
  • The Spare Hall now contains twin artwork. One drawing is on the wall on the far right, while the other is on the floor on the right, behind the boxes.

The Spare Hall may contain one of the following items on the small table:

* A key can spawn in at least three different positions. With sufficient luck, it is possible to get more than one.

The Spare Hall may also be randomly selected by an Upgrade Disk, making the Spare Room the only room which can be upgraded twice.

There are three possible further upgrades:

Floorplan Effect Description
SpareRoomFoyerUpgradeIcon.png Hallway Doors are always unlocked. No change
SpareRoomSecretPassageUpgradeIcon.png Leads to a room of a color of your choice. No change
SpareRoomGreatHallUpgradeIcon.png 7 Locked Doors No change

Each upgrade causes the Spare Hall to mimic the effect and appearance of a particular room in the Hallways category:

The effects of the Spare Foyer and Spare Secret Passage are identical to the originals in each case, but the Spare Great Hall has several differences. While the upgrades take on much of the cosmetic appearance of the mimicked Hallways, including some of the furniture, they still retain the original Spare Room's corridor shape, do not include documents or other points of interest from the mimicked rooms and never cost gems to draft. Spare Room upgrades never contain chess pieces.

This effect and the Foyer's effect are redundant together.

The far wall of the Spare Foyer is white, and the side walls are painted orange and lined with white pillars. It retains the finger busts that point towards the far doorway, but does not contain the six figure busts of the Sinclair family. The artwork is moved to the wall that the Spare Foyer is drafted from, immediately behind the player after entering.

An item can spawn either on one of the shelves below the artwork or beside one of the finger busts:

The Spare Secret Passage becomes a "Dead End" in addition to its other types. However, it is inconsistent about gaining Dead End interactions:

  • Drafting the Spare Secret Passage does not spread gold in the Tomb.
  • Upgrade Disk [Upgrade Spoiler: Cloister] The Spare Secret Passage ordinarily cannot be drafted from the Cloister of Draxus, even though the Secret Passage can be. However, it can still be drawn there by warping a Prism Key, which allows it to be drafted and does, in fact, provide dice.

The "Dead End" portion takes up the whole room. Instead of a whole wall of bookcases, there is a slightly taller version of the moving secret bookcase pressed right up against the far door. There is no corridor section, and the bookcase slides to the side when interacted with instead of opening outwards. Like the Secret Passage, choosing a color from the bookcase changes the color of the door behind it.

All of the walls now have Hallway-style wallpaper. Some rolls of wallpaper are still lying to the left of the room, on a chair and some boxes. The artwork has moved to the sides of the room, one frame on each wall.

Spoilers Within

This section contains spoilers for a Secret Passage secret.

Accessing the Spare Secret Passage from behind without choosing a color reveals that the default door color is brown. There is nothing written on the back of the bookcase.

This upgrade inherits the placement restrictions that the normal Secret Passage has, becoming unable to be placed on Rank 1 or 9, and being blocked from normal drafting after initiating a draft leading north into A8 or E8 or south into A2 or E2 until a draft is made going vertically along either wing.

  • If a duplicate Spare Room is added via Chamber of Mirrors, the copy (or copies) can still be drafted on Rank 1. (Spare Room copies are never draftable on Rank 9.)
  • Unlike the normal Secret Passage, the Spare Secret Passage is able to be drawn during a color-selective draft.

An item can spawn on the boxes to the left:

* A key can spawn in at least three different positions. With sufficient luck, it is possible to get more than one.

The Spare Great Hall is the only Spare Room upgrade whose effect differs from the original:

  • It does not inherit the Great Hall's shape, i.e. it does not gain actual doorways to other rooms on the sides. As such, it may be drafted in certain locations that the Great Hall cannot, such as along the edges of the house.
  • Rather than being a narrow corridor with several chambers on either side, the central portion takes up most of the room. There are still three locked doors on each side of the room, with each door leading to nothing but a small alcove. Despite the effect's text description, the seventh door - the regular door at the far end of the room - is not necessarily locked.
  • The side doors do not provide the usual "locked." prompt when interacted with no means of unlocking them, and their interaction with Lockpick Kit appears to be buggy and inconsistent. Unlike in the Great Hall, the player is locked into a few seconds of animation every time they open one of the six side doors.
  • Exactly one alcove on each side contains a prize. The other alcoves contain either nothing or one of the room's two picture frames, with each side having one or zero frames. Prizes include:
    • Four cyan gems
    • A basic key, a cyan gem and a pile of 5
    • Four piles of 5, for a total of 20
  • There is no Upgrade Disk or Antechamber lever in the Spare Great Hall.

Aside from its prizes, the Spare Great Hall may include:
