When a spread occurs, items are randomly distributed across all rooms currently active on the estate. The more rooms in your house, the larger the spread.
― Glossary of Terms

Spreads or spread effects are gameplay effects which usually distribute a number of items across existing rooms on the estate. Each room has designated item spawns for different types of spread; whenever any spread effect triggers, each room on the estate has a chance for an item of the relevant type to spawn. The total number of items spread generally depends on the total number of rooms on the estate, though there are several other factors that can affect it such as the type of spread. All Spread Rooms have effects that either spread items or interact with other spread effects, though some spread effects are not associated with a Spread Room.

Spreading only applies to rooms currently on the estate. Rooms drafted after the spread is done cannot benefit from it unless the spread is performed a second time later. If a spread is triggered by drafting a room which is itself eligible for the spread, such as the Patio, then the new room may or may not contain one of the spread items.

Types of spread

Spread Room effects

Other spreads

  • A particular experimental effect from the Laboratory spreads dig spots to The Grounds whenever it is triggered. This effect is still considered a spread, even though it spreads to the Grounds deterministically rather than to rooms randomly. It is the only spread effect which does not spread resource items.
  • West Path [Outer Room: Tomb] Drafting any Dead End with a Tomb on the estate causes a pile of 5 to be "spread" to a table in the Tomb. The Tomb triggers its own effect when it is drafted, meaning that it usually contains an initial 5 by itself.

Interactions

  • The Conference Room, the only Spread Room that does not itself spread items, alters all spread effects to place items inside itself rather than elsewhere in the estate. Spreads to the Conference Room act differently to regular spreads; both the specific kinds of items spread and quantity of items may differ. See Conference Room#Spread effect for more information.

While the Blessing of the Chef is active, performing any type of spread will also cause a new, unique dish to appear in today's Dining Room. The Dining Room does not need to be already on the estate for this effect to occur; when the Dining Room is drafted, it automatically gains a dish for each type of spread performed since receiving the blessing, and any spreading done after drafting the Dining Room adds the corresponding dish instantaneously. However, any spreading done before receiving the blessing does not count. The dishes are completely independent of the Dining Room's main course.

There are five dishes that can be added by the Blessing of the Chef, each corresponding to a specific type of resource item or container that can be spread. Multiple dishes can be spawned in one day, though each dish can only be served once per Dining Room; repeatable spreads, such as the effect of the Tomb, cannot cause multiple dishes to spawn. Each dish provides +5 and grants the player additional copies of the items that were previously spread. As with the main course, each dish may be improved by drafting specific rooms, in this case granting extra copies of the items. Multiple copies of bonus rooms do not provide multiple additional items.

  • Unlike the main course, reaching Rank 8 is not required to view or consume these dishes.
  • Golden Sunrise Soup and Key Lime Pie will set off the Metal Detector.
  • Upgrade Disk [Upgrade Spoiler: Spare Room] The spread effect of the Spare Patio can also add the Sloppy Jim to the Dining Room.
