After the passing of Baroness Auravei, her private study was claimed by her eldest son, Herbert Sinclair. For years, he immersed himself in the countless notebooks she left behind, drawing inspiration from her discarded ideas. From mechanical puzzles to architectural blueprints, each endeavor he pursued in this room was realized in the shade of her creative legacy.
― Room Directory

The Study is a room in Blue Prince. Listed as Room 026 in the Room Directory, the Study is notable for the powerful drafting effect it provides.

Points of interest

Items

The Study usually contains one of the following items; either on the table on the right, the study desk on the left, or, in the case of the trunk, at the back of the room.

Documents

The desk on the left has two documents:

  • A note presumably written by Herbert Sinclair to himself, providing some context surrounding the paired artwork found throughout the house.
  • A more scribbled note with various pairs of similar words, with most of them crossed out.

Although not strictly a document, there is also a blackboard with a partial 5x9 grid and notes that appear to relate to the other documents.

Other points of interest

The Study contains several other objects of note:

  • An ordinary chess board with nothing but a black queen on its home square, regularly sized unlike the other chess pieces found throughout the estate.
  • A large globe that spins when interacted with, and what appears to be a fixed clock at its base.
  • A tall, bulky safe that requires a numeric code to open.

Spoilers Within

This section contains spoilers for cracking the safe.

The code to the safe is 1208. The "date" that this code corresponds to is "D8" - the square that the black queen on the chessboard appears on. The "12" part may also be determined by the prominence of the queen, which, when taken as a playing card, is frequently assigned a numerical ranking of 12.

The alternate codes 0812, 128 and 812 are also accepted.

The safe contains a ruby and a red letter marked by the number 2, written by Caleb Manning and addressed to Mary Jones. Opening the safe immediately considers the letter to be discovered and adds a red letter mark to the blueprint menu. Afterwards, the safe remains permanently open and cannot be closed, allowing an additional gem to be acquired in the Study on future days.

The red letter also contains a found floorplan for the Closed Exhibit, which can be collected and permanently added to the draft pool immediately.

Drafting effect

The Study's associated drafting icon

While drafting, if there a Study on the estate and at least one gem is held, there will be an additional drafting option that allows floorplans to be redrawn. This option costs 1 to use and can be used at most eight times per draft.

Whether or not this option appears depends on whether any gems are held at the time the draft begins. If all gems have been depleted while drafting, then the drafting option will still appear but cannot be used; attempting to use it will just cause the gem count to flash. If a gem is then somehow gained mid-draft, the option can be used again. However, if a draft is initiated with 0 gems, then the Study redraw option doesn't appear at all, even if gems are gained mid-draft. Regardless of gem count, using the option for the 8th time in a single draft will cause it to vanish until the next draft.

Drafting the Study causes a transparent L square to be added to the drafting interface for the rest of the day, along with a set of colored books. The number of books that appear initially is equal eight or the number of held gems, whichever is lesser, and using the drafting option causes the leftmost book to drop offscreen. These visuals are intended to represent the number of remaining uses of the Study's redraw option; however they are unaffected by other effects which cause gems to be gained or spent mid-draft, and can cause the visuals to desync with actual remaining uses in those circumstances.
