Vault Key
Vault Keys, also called Safe Deposit Box Keys, are special items in Blue Prince. While technically four separate items each with its own set of possible locations, Vault Keys all share similar experiences, properties and usage.
How to obtain
A select number of locations may contain any Vault Key, selecting Vault Keys that have not already been spawned or used:
- The Music Room will contain a Vault Key if its other "major keys" are not available and there is a Vault Key available to spawn. Vault Key 149 is tried first, followed by 370, 233, and finally 304.
- [Upgrade Spoiler: Cloister] Drafting the Bunk Room from the Cloister of Mila will always cause it to contain two Vault Keys, as long as two are available to spawn and Silver Key is not. The Vault Keys are not random and follow a priority list of 233, 370, 304, and finally 149. See Cloister of Mila for more information.
Each Vault Key also has unique locations where it can spawn:

Usage
Spoilers Within
This section contains spoilers for the Vault.
The Vault contains 372 safe deposit boxes lining its walls which are initially shut, locked and uninteractable. Approaching a box while holding the corresponding Vault Key will allow the key to be used, permanently unlocking and opening the box. Although Vault Keys are not consumed on use, they will be permanently removed from the item pool afterwards and will never be obtainable again.
The contents of each box are fixed, generally consisting of some mix of resource items, unique items and documents. The resource items only appear when the box is initially unlocked and do not spawn again on subsequent days.
Deposit box 149
Contains:
- Three piles of 5, for 15 total
- An Allowance Token
- A passport belonging to "Samantha Hayes"
Only the passport reappears on subsequent days. In particular, the token is permanently missed if not taken on its initial appearance.
Deposit box 233
Contains:
- A unique stack of 25
- An Allowance Token
- A passport belonging to "Grey Daniels"
Only the passport reappears on subsequent days. In particular, the token is permanently missed if not taken on its initial appearance.
Deposit box 304
Contains:
- Three cyan gems
- An Upgrade Disk
- A passport belonging to "Jean Ribbon"
The passport reappears on subsequent days; the Upgrade Disk only appears if not already used. The gems never reappear.
Deposit box 370
Contains:
- A unique stack of 40
- A Sanctum Key
- A letter from Mary to her uncle, thanking him and explaining the contents of this and the other deposit boxes
The letter appears on subsequent days; the Sanctum Key only appears if not already used. The gems never reappear.
